CSE Softball Drops Doubleheader to Drew

The College of St Elizabeth Softball team dropped their first 2 games of the year, 9-1 and 3-2, to Drew University on Thursday.

In the first game, Christina Scolaro took the mound for the Eagles. She pitched a scoreless first inning before giving up a run in each of the next 2 innings.  The Eagles struggled in the field early on, committing 5 errors in the game.  The Eagles got on the board in the 6th inning when Valerie Lasko drew a walk. 2 batters later, Alesandria DeSapio singled home Lasko to give the Eagles their first run of the game.  Unfortunately for the Eagles, they couldn’t muster home any more runs, dropping game 1, 9-1.

Game 2 started off much better for the Eagles. With a 0-2 count and 2 outs in the top of the first inning, DeSapio drove a fastball over the left field wall for a home run, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Danesha Triplett took the mound in game 2 pitching a scoreless first inning. Drew got on the board in the second inning scoring 2 runs and taking a 2-1 lead. Triplett continued to pitch well, giving up just 1 more run in the game.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the top of 7th inning, Lasko drove a line drive up the middle scoring Grace Bailey and cutting the lead to 3-2. Despite getting another runner in scoring position, the Eagles could not tie up the score, dropping the game 3-2.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to New York to take on York College at 1 p.m.
