Eagles Blanked by Wilson

The College of Saint Elizabeth’s softball game dropped a pair of games in their final home doubleheader of the season, dropping the contests 13-0 and 12-0 on Wednesday.

The Phoenix of Wilson got out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Kayla Sullenberger.  Danesha Triplett got out of the top of the 1st inning without any further damage. The Eagles were unable to get any base runners in the bottom of the first after a 1-2-3 inning. In the top of the 2nd inning, the Phoenix loaded the bases thanks to back to back singles. Wilson added 2 more singles, bringing 3 runs across the plate and taking a 5-0 lead.  The Phoenix managed to add 5 more runs in the inning, taking a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the second.

Kristene Brady-Downes got the first hit for the Eagles in the bottom of the second inning. CSE was unable to muster any more offense however, taking a 9-0 deficit into the 3rd inning. In the top of the 3rd inning, Kayla Gonzalez gunned down the runner trying to steal second for the first out of the inning.  Triplett got the next 2 outs without surrendering any more runs.  In the top of the 5th inning, the Phoenix loaded the bases before Kayla Sullenberger hit a grand slam giving Wilson a 13-0 lead. CSE was unable to score any runs in the bottom half of the inning, dropping game 1, 13-0.

Danesha Triplett took the mound again for the Eagles in game 2. Triplett got off to a much better start, giving up just 1 hit in a scoreless first inning. Valerie Lasko reached on a base hit in the bottom of the first inning, but the Eagles were unable to bring her across the plate as the game went to the top of the second inning, scoreless. The Phoenix finally cracked through in the top of the 4th inning, scoring the first run of the game on an RBI single.

In the top of the 5th inning, Kayla Sullenberger hit her second grand slam of the day, giving the Phoenix a 5-0 lead.  Wilson tacked on 7 more runs in the inning to take a 12-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning.  The Eagles were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the game 12-0.

Before game 1, President Helen Streubert threw out the first pitch as part of the President’s Inauguration Week as 7th President of the College of Saint Elizabeth. The Eagles return to action on Friday when they head to Lancaster Bible for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 P.M.
