Ashley Pledger sank a buzzer beating layup, giving the Screaming Eagles their 8th straight win, 63-61 over Ramapo.
CSE looked to build off their impressive win yesterday, taking on Ramapo College in an out of conference game. The Eagles were led early on by Danesha Triplett, who established herself in the paint, scoring back to back buckets to give the Eagles and early 12-10 lead. The Eagles once again applied a full court press throughout much of the half, forcing 10 turnovers. Fresh off her NEAC Student Athlete of the Week award, Kelly O’Dell had a steal late in the half that led to a foul, resulting in 2 made free throws. The Screaming Eagles, however, struggled to make shots at the end of the half, finding themselves in a 30-26 hole at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles opened up a 5-0 run; thanks to a 3 pointer by O’Dell to give the Eagles a 31-30 lead. Both teams traded buckets midway through the second half. Amerisse Rodgers drained a key jumper to give the Eagles a 53-51 lead. CSE added 5 more points to open a 7 point lead, their largest of the game. Ramapo however, continued to claw away cutting the lead to 61-58 with a minute remaining in the game.
Ramapo’s Micaela Moore scored a layup and drew a foul to tie the game up at 61 with 45 seconds remaining. With 20 seconds remaining in the game, Ramapo forced a turnover to get the ball back. Kelly O’Dell however, would not let Ramapo get off a shot, as she stole the ball with 5 seconds remaining. O’Dell raced up the court before giving Pledger a perfect bounce pass, making the game winning layup right as the buzzer sounded.
Kelly O’Dell finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Ashley Pledger added 13 points and 8 rebounds. The Screaming Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lancaster Bible at 1 P.M.
