Valley Health System Holds Student Capstone Symposium at CSE

Valley Health System sponsored a Capstone Project Symposium recently to showcase and congratulate the recent 25 graduates of the College of Saint Elizabeth’s (CSE) Master in Healthcare Management (HCM) program.  The students/employees have been attending class each week at Valley Hospital and are now celebrating their graduation achievement.

The Capstone Seminar/Experience is the culminating experience of the program, requiring students to present an original research project demonstrating an ability to define, analyze, evaluate and recommend solutions for real on site healthcare issues.

Peter Deistel, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, stated, "The Capstone Project Symposium in December was an exciting event for the entire organization. While we honored our graduates and learned about their important projects, at the same time we were celebrating the amazing partnership that Valley Health System and the College of Saint Elizabeth have forged over the past four years. We look forward to many more graduation celebrations in the years ahead!"

Dennis Cronin, Director of Education of Valley Health System added, “The Capstone Project Symposium was a great success!  We celebrated and honored the 25 Valley employees who achieved an important milestone in their careers.....earning their Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management.  At the same time, the Symposium provided an opportunity for many Valley employees to experience the students' culminating projects and to understand how these projects will make a real difference for Valley Health System.  There was a buzz and excitement in the room that was amazing!"

Some examples of The Capstone Projects were:

  • Importance of Leadership in Patient and Family Centered Care;
  • Navigation of Health Care Services in the Valley Health System;
  • Leading and Managing in the New Healthcare Landscape.

These new graduates will have the opportunity of applying their capstone project research to making a positive impact on the processes within The Valley Health System.

Dr. Catherine Martin, Area Chair, Health and Wellness of CSE concluded with remarks on the excellent partnership established with Valley Health System and the professional outcomes achieved from  the HCM program.
