Student Profile: Bria Forney, '18, Business/Communication

Morristown, N.J. (May 25, 2016) – Bria Forney, '18, is taking advantage of all of the opportunities CSE has to offer. The business major and communications minor is an intern at radio station Hot 97 in New York City (NYC), a steady blogger and president of the College's business club.

The Union, N.J., resident has always had a knack for business and communicating with others, and wanted to hone her talents at CSE.

"The classwork doesn't feel like work because I have fun doing it; I am always eager to learn more."

Bria is especially excited about her internship with NYC's radio station WQHT-FM, Hot 97. She started blogging for the site March 30, 2016, and her friend suggested Bria further her role at the station by applying for a summer internship. Out of 600 applicants, Bria was offered the position.

Her internship will officially start May 31, where she will have opportunities to work for the production, digital, and sales and marketing departments.

Bria began her blogging pursuits in March 2016. She created a platform called "The Pink Pen" to shine a light on females who have their own businesses, but it quickly evolved into something more:

"I expanded to writing about people who feel like the 'underdog,'" Bria explained. "I give up-and-coming artists, like painters, singers and photographers, a voice through my writing. I believe everyone deserves to be heard."

Every week, Bria interviews an artist about their background, work and aspirations, and then documents the interviews in her weekly blog posts. In her blog's "about" page, Bria wrote, "Whether it be music, art, clothing or photography ... this generation exudes so much talent. I want to recognize that and give a platform." Bria is also involved on the CSE campus through SGA (Student Government Association) as president of the Business Club, a position she assumed in the fall 2015 semester. Throughout the year, Bria has been dedicated to promoting the club and building good membership. The group recently held a successful fundraiser selling "interview survival kits."

Just as Bria aspires to give people a voice through her writing, CSE has given her a voice through the school's commitment to women's empowerment:

"I chose CSE not only because the great financial opportunity they afforded to me, but also because of its rich history and support of women and building women up."

In the future, Bria hopes her blog will become an official site and a leading forum for rising artists. She wants to pursue a career in media, specifically radio.

Bria encouraged, "Do what you love! Find your niche, and you'll never have to work a day in your life."
