The College of Saint Elizabeth’s Department of Athletics reinstated Cross Country as a NCAA varsity sport in the Fall of 2008. The Screaming Eagles travel to various locations to run in 5Kk or 6k invitationals along with facing North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponents in a championship meet held in late October. Annually, the Eagles enter in invitationals located at Delaware Valley College, Steven’s Institute of Technology, Baruch College, and Saint Joseph’s College of Long Island.
In the first year of the program, Jenna Stumpf placed 7th in the Stevens Institute of Technology Invitational and 12th in the Baruch Invitational. In addition, sophomore runners, Anastasia Feola and Sabrina Jarmolinski (24th at Stevens Invitational) were strong contenders in the 2008 season.
In the second year of Cross Country, the Eagles were able to compete competitively in both the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and non-conference competition.
The Eagles participated at the Delaware Valley College Meet where rookie, Brittany Hinton placed third overall in 24 minutes. Hinton's early success also named her NEAC Runner of the Week. Teammates Jenna Stumpf and Jessica Santos both finished in 30 minutes. Freshman, Noelle Grande finished in 35 minutes.
While competing against Baruch College, a 6K event, Jenna Stumpf finished 16th and Jessica Santos finished 27th in a little over 30 minutes. Against Steven's Institute of Technology, Santos finished 10th overall.
Competing at the NEAC Championship held at SUNY IT in upstate NY, Brittany Hinton finished in second place overall and was named First Team All-Conference. She finished in a time of 20:20 for 3.1 miles. This time would be the new school record as well as her personal best.
Captain, Jenna Stumpf finished 23rd overall in 24:52. Jessica Santos finished close behind in 27th in less than a minute later. Sabrina Jarmolinski and Anastasia Feola finished in 34th and 38th. The Eagles took 5th overall in the NEAC for the 2009 season.
Hinton holds the records of 20:20.5 in the 5k achieved on October 31, 2009 and 23:16.30 in the 6k on September 25, 2009.
