The Screaming Eagles jumped out to a big first half lead and never looked back, defeating Wilson College 77-57 on Saturday.
The Eagles were lead early by Junior Valerie Lasko, who scored 6 straight points to give the Eagles a quick 19-9 lead. Ashley Pledger hit back to back jumpers mid-way through the first half to give the Eagles a 30-13 lead. The Eagles defense continued to play well, forcing 16 first half turnovers. The defense also held Wilson to just 20% shooting in the first half. Pledger nailed a 3 pointer with 50 seconds remaining, to give the Eagles a comfortable 40-22 halftime lead.
The second half started out much like the first. Sharolin Sanders knocked down a 2 point jumper to give the Eagles a 20 point lead. Despite CSE’s solid defense, the Eagles had trouble containing Vanessa Whitfield, who dropped 41 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She helped bring Wilson to within 10 mid-way through the second half. Despite cutting the lead in half, the Eagles ripped off a 10-0 run to blow the game back open, 68-48. The Eagles never let the lead get below 15, before Sanders hit the final jumper, giving the Eagles the 77-57 win.
Ashley Pledger finished with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Danesha Triplett added another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
