The College of St Elizabeth defeated Morrisville St. 72-53 on Saturday, before falling to Wells College 75-50 on Sunday.
The Eagles traveled to Morrisville St. on Saturday to take on the Mustangs for an NEAC Conference game. Fresh off her 1,000th career point, Cheyenne Grant got the Eagles going, knocking down a 3 point to bring the Eagles to within 5-3 early in the game. Grant knocked down another 3 pointer at the 12:46 mark, to give the Eagles their first lead of the game, 12-10. The Mustangs held tough, holding a short lead until Sharolin Sanders nailed a 3 pointer, giving the Eagles a 29-25 lead. Sanders followed that up with back to back layups, giving the Eagles a 33-29 lead going into halftime.
The Screaming Eagles got rolling in the second half. Ashley Pledger nailed a 3 pointer early in the half to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game, 36-31. Danesha Triplett added back to back buckets to open the lead up at 43-34, leading to a Morrisville timeout. Grant continued her hot shooting from beyong the arc, nailing another 3 pointer and giving the Eagles a 51-39 lead at the 12:28 mark. Pledger went on a 6-0 run of her own, blowing the game wide open at 57-40. Sanders capped the game off swishing home another 3 pointer, giving the Eagles a 72-51 lead with 40 seconds remaining. The Mustangs added a late bucket to bring the final score to 72-53.
Danesha Triplett finished with another double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Pledger and Sharolin Sanders both pitched in with 14 points each.
On Sunday, The Eagles traveled to Wells College to take on the Express. Ashley Pledger kept her solid play going, knocking a 3 pointer and giving the Eagles a 7-4 lead. Alivia Roseboro made a driving layup to bring the Eagles to within 16-15 with 7:51 remaining in the first half. The Eagles showed signs of playing a back to back, giving up an 8-0 run late in the half, giving the Express a 29-21 lead. CSE would not give in however, closing out the half with a 7-0 run of their own, trailing just 29-28 going into the break.
Kelly O’Dell nailed a jumper, to give the Eagles a 32-31 lead early in the second half. The Eagles and the Express traded buckets, before a series of Eagles turnovers lead to a 51-47 lead for Wells. Cheyenne Grant drove to the bucket, scored and got fouled to bring the Eagles deficit to 60-58. The Eagles kept fighting hard on defense, forcing a Wells turnover before O’Dell nailed a 3 pointer to tie the game up at 63. Despite the Eagles struggles shooting the ball, Grant hit another 3 pointer to give the Eagles a 68-67 lead with just under 4 minutes remaining. The Eagles however, could not hold on to the lead, falling behind 71-68 with a minute remaining. CSE could not manage to get any closer, falling to Wells 75-70.
Ashley Pledger and Kelly O’Dell finished with a team high 15 points. Danesha Triplett also added 14 points. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday night when they host Gallaudet University at 6 P.M.
