CSE Splits Doubleheader at Gallaudet

The College of St Elizabeth softball team split a doubleheader at Gallaudet, winning game 1 10-8 before dropping game 2, 7-0.

In game 1, Gallaudet University jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the second, Danesha Triplett doubled into the gap, driving home Sharolin Saunders, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. 2 batters later, Valerie Lasko tripled home Julie Rodriguez, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead. The Eagles tacked on 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd inning to open up a 6-1 lead.

Leading 7-2 in the top of the 5th inning, Triplett laced a single up the middle, driving in Kayla Gonzalez. The Eagles added one more run to blow the game open at 9-2. The Bison answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Eagles lead to 9-5. The Eagles would push another run across the plate in the top of the 6th inning, before winning the game 10-8.

In the second game, the Screaming Eagles were trailing 6-2 in the top of the 3rd inning before bad weather stopped the game. The umpires did not think the weather was bad enough for the game to be called, however the Eagles did not feel it was safe enough to continue playing in the snow and hail. The Eagles ended up forfeiting the game due to player safety. According to NCAA rules, the game is considered a 7-0 win for Gallaudet and stats for the game are not counted.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Cairn University.
