CSE Basketball Splits 2 at Centenary Tournament

CSE Basketball Splits 2 at Centenary Tournament

The CSE basketball team lost their season opener on Friday, dropping to Albright 83-60 in the first round of the Centenary Tournament.

The Eagles struggled from the field in the first half. The team shot just 36% on 12-33 from the field. Ashley Pledger was one of the bright spots in the first half, scoring 12 of her 18 points before the break.  CSE had trouble stopping Albright’s size in the paint. Albright established position down low which made it tough for the Eagles to contain. Despite struggling from the field, the Eagles found themselves down a manageable 46-30 at halftime.

The Eagles looked to turn things around in the second half. The Eagles managed to get to the line 10 times in the second half. Sharolin Sanders established herself in the second half, finishing with 16 points on 7-15 shooting.  Unfortunately for the Eagles, their struggles from the field continued shooting just 33% in the second half. CSE could not recover and ended up dropping the first game of the season, 83-60.

On Saturday, the Eagles returned to action against Penn St-Wilkes Barre in the consolation game.  CSE was determined to not continue their shooting woes. In the first half, they jumped out to a quick early lead and never looked back. CSE shot 62.5% in the first half and scored 50 points, a season high in a half. Danesha Triplett finished with her first career double-double, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds.

CSE continued their momentum in the second half, holding Penn St to just 21.9% shooting from the field. The defense also caused 22 turnovers in the game. Cheyenne Grant was on fire from downtown, hitting 5-8 3 point attempts and finishing the game with 17 points.  Ashley Pledger chipped in with 13 points and Kelly O’Dell added 9 points and 10 rebounds.  The Eagles cruised in the second half besting Penn St. Wilkes-Barre 79-56.

Ashley Pledger was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.5 points over the 2 games. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Cedar Crest at 7 P.M.
