MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Host Saint Elizabeth (1-5), clinched their first season victory 9-0, against visiting Medgar Evers (0-13) in women’s tennis action on Thursday afternoon.
The win was also the first win at Saint Elizabeth for head coach Lisa Parks. Saint Elizabeth won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The tandem of senior Yanick Pepe and junior Miwako Nishioka downed Roneke Browne and Ashley Yagoda at No. 1 by an 8-3 count. At No. 2 doubles, the team of sisters Katie and Amy Cooper defeated Evelyn Reid and Ruma Hogue by an 8-0 score.
In singles, No. 1 Pepe topped Roneke Browne in a tie breaker with a 3-6, 6-4 and 4-6 score to make it 4-0 for Saint Elizabeth. Nishioka clinched the match for the Eagles when she downed Yagoda at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Nishioka's victory gave Saint Elizabeth a 5-0 lead. Chiamaka Nwargwu made it 6-0 when she topped Reid at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Rookies, K. Cooper and Devlyn Elleston won each of their singles with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Eagles return to the court April 14 when they host conference opponent Wells College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
