SOMERSET, N.J. – Saint Elizabeth sophomore forward Valerie Lasko scored a goal and senior Cassidy Crane had an assist but visiting Lancaster Bible pulled out the 3-1 win over the Screaming Eagles in North Eastern Athletic Association soccer action on a warm fall Monday afternoon at Soccer Centers.
It was the final game of the season for Saint Elizabeth who concluded the season 5-11-1 overall and 4-8 in NEAC. Lancaster Bible improved to 14-4 overall and 11-1 in the NEAC with the road victory.
Lancaster Bible got on the scoreboard in the 13th minute when No. 5 banked a shot off a CSE defender for her 11th score of the season.
CSE battled back to even the match in 16th minute on a familiar combination. Senior midfielder Cassidy Crane touched a long pass through to streaking forward Valerie Lasko who chipped a shot over the charging Lancaster Bible goalkeeper for her seventh goal of the season.
The score remained 1-1 at halftime with Lancaster Bible holding a 12-4 shot advantage.
The Screaming Eagles honored their seven seniors at halftime with balloons, flowers and plenty of pictures with family and friends. Those honored included forward Jasmine Bristol, forward Sheiny Bonilla, midfielder Crane, midfielder Dina Toledo, midfielder Latasia Peace, midfielder Kelly O’Dell and goalkeeper Catherine De La Cruz.
The Screaming Eagles and the CSE Department of Athletics also honored outgoing College president, Sister Fran Raftery, who recently announced she was retiring in June. Raftery, also received a flower in appreciation for her support of CSE athletics, on and off the field of play.
Lancaster Bible brought down the festive mood with a pair of scores in the first ten minutes of the second half to open a 3-1 lead and the score held up giving the visitors the win.
Saint Elizabeth concludes the 2012 season with the same amount of victories as last season (five).
