CSE Outlasts Penn St. Abington for 5th Straight Win

Despite a slow first half, the Screaming Eagles found their form in the second half, beating Penn St. Abington 55-45 on Tuesday night.

Cheyenne Grant knocked down the first bucket of the game, a 3 pointer, to give the Eagles the early lead. Penn St Abington, however, found a hot hand early pulling ahead 10-7, leading to a CSE timeout. Following the timeout, Abington continued to force the Eagles into turnovers, extending their lead to 16-7. Kelly O’Dell continued her solid play, hitting a clutch 3 pointer to cut the lead to 20-14. The Eagles defense stepped up at the end of the half, forcing 19 first half turnovers. Despite the slow start, CSE found themselves tied at the break at 22.

The second half started much better for the Eagles. O’Dell hit two quick 3 pointers to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game, 28-22. The defense continued to be the story of the second half, forcing 9 more turnovers and holding Abington to just 25% shooting.  Grant had the clinching series of the game, knocking down a jump shot, followed by a 3 pointer to give the Eagles a 47-40 lead. CSE would not give up the lead, ultimately defeating Penn St. Abington 55-45.

Kelly O’Dell finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 steals. Sharolin Sanders also pitched in with 7 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. The Eagles look to make it 6 in a row when they host SUNY Cobleskill on Friday night at 7 P.M.
