Innovating With Appropriation in the Studio and on the Computer
Tuesday, July 1 | 9:30-12:00 p.m.
Hands-on workshop to follow from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Visual artist Raúl Villarreal appropriates images from mass media and old photographs into his work. Through the use of this practice he creates new work with strong historical and cultural references and will be using this approach as a springboard for workshop participants. From Manet to Picasso to a large number of 21st century artists, appropriation has been a strong impetus for critical and relevant art. This creative vehicle lends itself to express the artist's aesthetic ideas and perspectives while dealing with a variety of different contemporary and social issues.

Presenter: Raúl Villarreal
