Program Offerings

An understanding of the past promotes full comprehension of the present and expectations for the future. The study of history affords students better analytic and reasoning skills, research abilities and tools for clear expression. A BA in History draws from both American and regional history, providing perspective on global events and an understanding of the human factors influencing them. Minors are available in both History and Political Science.

    1. Supportive environment and faculty dedicated to maximizing the academic potential of each student
    2. Topical courses on the history of American women, African-Americans, film, U.S. economic development, and the Holocaust
    3. The History Program works in close collaboration with the American Studies and World Cultures and Languages programs

Students will gain a broad understanding of historical events, as well as the analytic tools to evaluate materials from other eras. They will develop research and writing skills necessary for effective implementation and communication of their endeavors.

Nicole Yanoso's chapter, “'Keeping the Tradition Alive:' The Newark Saint Patrick’s Day Parade" was accepted for publication in “You’d think that you were home in Ireland”: Essays on the Irish-American Experience in New Jersey and Metropolitan New York, to be published by Lexington Books.
