Communication

Overview

The Communication Program offers an undergraduate bachelor’s degree that provides coursework in both mass communication and communication studies. The major acknowledges that communication plays a fundamental role in what makes people uniquely “human.” The goals of both mass communication and communication studies are:

  • to foster the development of the “whole” person
  • to improve the educational enterprise
  • to create socially and culturally responsible citizens of the world
  • and to promote success in one’s career.

Understanding the theories and principles of communication and developing highly refined communication skills are essential to understanding the roles and responsibilities of communicating between individuals, within groups, and to mass audiences. Toward these goals, the communication program seeks to educate both consumers and producers of information to facilitate mutual understanding and to promote individual freedom.
