Louise Ann Cherrillo Romano, a life long resident of New Vernon, New Jersey, is a 1978 summa cum laude graduate of the College of Saint Elizabeth. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with certificated in Early Childhood and Elementary Education as well as Music Education K-12.
While attending Saint Elizabeth's, LuAnn was selected to participate in the Honor Program and was very active in the Elizabethan Education Association, the Glee Club, and the Drama Club.
After graduation, LuAnn accepted a teaching position at St. Virgil School in Morris Plains, New Jersey. During her eight years at St. Virgil's, she taught first second grade and served as the Cantor for all of the school liturgies and religious services.
In the summer of 1986, LuAnn was offered a teaching position with the Morris School District in Morristown, New Jersey. She taught at the Woodland School for three years and was then transferred to the Hillcrest School where she is still teaching today.
While at the Morris School District, LuAnn has taught kindergarten, first grade, and basic skills. In 1993, she was honored with the New Jersey Governor's Award for Teacher of the Year, and in 2001, she received a grant from the Morris Educational Foundation to develop an Emergent Reader Lending Library for her kindergarten classroom.
Besides teaching, LuAnn has a passion for singing and acting. She has been involved with many local community theater groups and has served as a Cantor and choir member at her home parish of Christ the King for over 20 years. She also enjoys working with the children of the parish on their annual Christmas Pageant and the Sixty Minutes to Easter program during Holy Week.
LuAnn has performed with the Tim Keyes Consort and can be heard on two CD's, Nativitas and Crucifixus, which were release by API Records in 1999 and 2000. LuAnn has spent the past 25 summers with the Harding Township Recreation Association Summer Day Camp. She is the Assistant Director of the program, which serves children from Pre-K through Grade 6 and employs many local high school and college students.
LuAnn married Pasquale Romano in 1989. While they were awaiting the arrival of their first child in 1991, a serious automobile accident changed her life forever. A healthy daughter, Christa Ann, was born prematurely and provided the inspiration LuAnn needed to endure months of tedious rehabilitation for her spinal cord injury. Thanks to many prayers and the tremendous support she received from family and friends, LuAnn was able to return to work and resume a productive life. She and her husband were blessed with a second child, Elizabeth Ann, in 1999.
A woman of deep faith, an educator, a musician, a mother, and a role model, Louise Ann Cherrillo Romano epitomizes the highest ideals of the Founders of this college.
